An unwitting Spogg/MV 'collaboration'

Postby k brown » Mon Jan 20, 2020 12:46 am

I've expanded my previous incarnation of the Delay from Spogg's A.S.S. synth, that I called SpaceOhPlex, to include Martin's Korus and MVerb 7b. The delay has been simplified/reverted back to the switch-per-head setup from the A.S.S.

Primarily intended as an 'enricher' for non-stereo synths, the Delay is mono in, then the Korus stereo-izes it. I have pretty much zero experience putting together 'combo' effects, so it would great if anyone would look to see if I've done anything really dumb in here, or what could be better. Maybe all three FX should have their own clip indicators?

Thanks a bunch.

UPDATE : Made most of the params controllable by footpedal or mod wheel - lotsa fun!

P.S.: If anyone has a MIDI footswitch (CC 80), can you check if it's bypassing the delay or not? (footswitch has to enabled by the little button at the bottom). Thanks.

Very nice Kevin. :D

Now for some controversy: I think that for a combo effect the signal chain order should be Chorus > Echo > Reverb.

The thinking is that chorus is a source of multiple instrument sounds (ideally), then the repeat echo is un-diffused reflections and finally the Reverb is diffused reflections of the un-diffused ones.

Maybe others have a different view, OR you could have signal routing options so the user could decide.

Cheers

Problem is, your delay is mono, and I'm not sure I'd able to stereo it with out botching it. If it were made stereo, maybe a ping-pong mode could be added?

I am thinking about making it re-chainable in any order (we'll see if I'm up that challenge - I'm not too up to speed on packing/unpacking :? ); would make more sense if all sections were stereo. As I said, I mainly wanted this for 'stereo-izeing' mono synths (like the as-yet unreleased 'secret project' ;) ), so having the mono delay first, then the 'stereo-izeing' Korus after, made sense.

Oh I get it now!

For packing, use Martin’s Fast pack and Unpack prims. They give you up to 4 mono inputs and outputs. Then just connect the mono-4 output connectors to the echo input and output. Check that all the stream connectors in the echo have turned to mono-4 types, and if not, right click to change them. Then the echo can be stereo. You just use 2 of the pack/unpack inputs for left and right. No extra CPU!

Cheers

Thanks for that - I'll give it a go, but I've always struggled with those packing prims, like when I do GUIs of Martin's things; I often don't understand their behavior. Seem to randomly change themselves from 4-packed to mono blue and back again.

Here you go!

If you like it routed this way, you just need to re-order the GUI.
I don’t trust myself with that kinda task.
