I was aware of the instrument and the article, but I think it’s relevant and interesting for anyone who isn’t.
What fascinates me is the drive to use whatever technology is available to create musical sound, starting way back with bones and tree branches made into flutes!
Cahill didn’t have the possibility to use vacuum tubes for amplification, but that didn’t stop him following his vision, even though his instrument weighed 200 tons and needed 15kW of power (probably because he needed a lot of energy because the stators for the alternators were electromagnetic).

Now I need to check out electric arc speakers…

Sometimes I wonder if Cahill was a time traveller. Imagine, he accidentally ended up in the past, and used his knowledge to create something that clearly was way ahead of its time. But, if he wasn't a time traveller, it makes it even more astonishing!

As Spogg and Spock say: "Fascinating." I'm referring to the comments, analysis and schematics on this topic.
I made a Hammond and Leslie schematic, but the great designs presented here makes embarrase cry when I see my poor works... especially in my Hammond version... but I'm sharing it here in case anyone want to replace the organ with the Martin one, and thus try out my Leslie (and improve it, if you think it can be salvaged). I included keyboard folbacks made in DSP code.

I don't know if it was mentioned, but one of the subtleties of tonewheel sound is the frequency and amplitude variations caused by the wheels being out of center. I've seen graphs where the amplitude can vary by about 1% or less, several times per second. I assume that these subtleties may not be noticeable individually, but may be audible in the ensemble, i.e. when using multiple drawbars and/or playing chords.
