Audio rate data acquisition
Hello,
I am attempting to build an electronic drum kit to interface with synthmaker/flowstone and have so far been simply using a cheap sound card to convert the current from a piezo and routing it in with the DAW. However, this does not allow for constant voltage measurement (for pitch bend when pressing pad) or capacitance (reliant on the voltage info, for palm mute).
I would like to know of any easy and cheap options for getting current and voltage data into flowstone at a reasonable audio rate and bit depth. So far it appears the best solution is to mod two cheap sound cards (or one stereo) to bypass the inbuilt DC blocker and add a voltage to current circuit to one. Seems crazy that sound cards would be cheaper than a data acquisition device of the same quality, guess it's one of those odd capitalist things of selling the same object for different prices depending on the use (you can buy a broom for £5 or the 'cat shooer deluxe' for £10) lol.
seems like data acquisition is tied to green math anyway so maybe it's impossible to do this without routing to the audio in. At least using stereo for current and voltage data with a single stereo interface would be somewhat elegant.
Assuming i found a good data acquisition device, is there any way the data could be packed into a stereo signal and fed into flowstone?
EDIT: Just realised you can use an external 'chopper' to allow DC to be converted without opening up the soundcard, current could be measured with a coil around the main wire and connected to the other channel. seems like the best option as it would be easily extendable.
