Drawing Code Acceleration

Is there a way to make the drawing of labels or rectangles on the screen way faster or more optimized ? I have this example here that is using some drawing code to display the wave forms as they are being switched on each step but it's really slow. You can even see the step sequencers get out of sync when the drawing is enabled.
