The Quilcom FYB: Fool Your Brain!

Hi all!

The Quilcom FYB is an audio enhancer or exciter (same thing really) and is the result of reading up on the topic generally and from discussions on this topic:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4364

The best results I got were inspired by the original Aphex and it was the first principle I tested!

I was literally stunned by the subjective improvement I could make, not only to instruments and vocals but also to complete mixes (various source material). The apparent increase in detail, clarity and even stereo field was remarkable and I’d love you give it a spin and hear for yourself.

I tried many variations and additions of more recent ideas, like compression, expansion, dynamic filtering, and differential harmonic extraction and so on but no added ideas improved the sound over the original. For example, compression of the filtered sound gave a certain harshness to the result and also meant that a fade in or out would alter the characteristics of the frequency balance and, somehow, compression degraded the stereo effect.

I’ve included a user guide in the uploaded zip, so if you’ve never used one of these before (like me) it might be worth reading. However, you can ctrl-click on the knobs for default, put the effect into the master track, load up a song and hear the results immediately.

The VST is on http://www.flowstoners.com under Quilcom.

Cheers
