how to learn dsp code?

hallo, i`m trying to write some code in dsp but my main problem here is that the code is very limited, it is also nearly impossible for me to read more complex code specially the way you have to write if statements (with &`s)

whats the best way to get this, is there some detailed tutorial to learn reading and writing dsp code or is there a chance that the devs enlarge the dsp code like implementing "normal" ifs and ors... to make it easier to write dsp code? and why is it not c or c++? is it that it can be translated directly into assembler?
