Can i give this subject a bit of a push..??
What does it actually take to get this Wiki thing up and running..??
How long till it's up and running..??..Has it been started...??
How will it work in regard to adding stuff...??
(I'm imagining that this will be moderated, to prevent Wiki filling up with un-checked stuff..???)

I'm imagining the Wiki mod team combing through all FS threads and posts to date,
and collect all the good stuff.(then they can moderate the wiki in real-time)

Lets not repeat the same mistake as done at SM, where there is hardly nothing on the wiki,
compared to the truckloads of knowledge scattered throughout the SM forum.

And seeing as were starting from scratch, we can custom-design it the way we want..
Anyone got ideas...????

I'd like to see a big ruby section, and maybe some sort of small snippet manager...
Ideally the entire SM forum should be filtered and brought over..but's that a dream..

Also the component reference should be much more detail - not just copy of the one in manuals. In there, the description is not very clear about some of the modules and especially their inputs and outputs.

I think the way forward with this would be to gather volunteers who are willing to take on the editorial roles, with some who know how to manage a Wiki. Maybe 'sub-editors' for different areas so that the workload can be spread fairly. I'd be happy to do that for a Ruby section.

If we can show that the commitment is there for it, then maybe we can approach DSPr about some server space for hosting, so that it will not be tied to a service which might require a subscription or be swamped in advertising.

Whichever way, we have to be confident that there will be a good number of contributors. The old Wiki was a great resource, but the lion's share of the content was generated very early on by just a handful of very dedicated people. It's hard work generating the kind of in-depth content that is really useful, and it's understandable that people "burn out" if the load is placed on too few shoulders. It would be a shame if a new Wiki fell into the same trap.

@Billy. Do you mind if I use my moderator powers to edit your top post? What I'm thinking is that if folks want to use this thread to say what they'd be willing to contribute, I'll gather the names into a list in the top post, and we can then easily see if there is enough interest to tempt DSPr, or justify finding an alternative host for it.

A Wiki is a good idea. But like Trog has said there would need to be plenty of people up for contributing and in an agreed format and not just a few people. Lots of people want a wiki very few ever seem to contribute.

I also think no examples should be posted to a Wiki we have the examples section on the forum for that. I would just like to see it as a collection of articles, tutorials , hints and tips and links to useful info and sites.

I agree that a Wiki is not really the appropriate place for "toolbox downloads", but I do still feel that useful stuff does get buried/duplicated too easily on the forums. Even with the advanced search, we use too much common jargon and technical terms to always make stuff simple to find.
I wonder if a repository something like GitHub, SourceForge etc. would be possible for managing downloadables?
If a repo' would be too complex or labour intensive (I guess probably is) then I'd at least like to see the forum categorised a little more usefully. I have no problem with the hardware guys getting three whole categories to themselves, but most folks here are still audio/DSP developers, and we have to make do with "General" (pretty meaningless) or "DSP" (which also overlaps a lot with hardware applications). I feel that something like the old SM Audio Effect, Synths, GUI kind of categories would be much more useful as the site grows.

If you'd be up for expanding into a little FlowStone, that would be cool - I don't see any reason that a Wiki necessarily has to be "official" and linked to the DSPr site, just thought it might make arranging the hosting more simple.

Good idea Trog....that's sort of what I meant about a "mod team" to oversee it, not really fair to dump
the whole job on a few moderators, who are no doubt busy with other stuff.

Ok. The software run into a problem when i changed some things...
I may restore it or even change some part of the site. I can use the software for wiki directly like the one of MediaWiki.
