Mono Stream ENV confusion

Postby Drnkhobo » Thu Jun 26, 2014 10:18 am

Hey guys, i have been trying to get this to work for some time now & cant seem to fix it.

I have an env which is triggered by a peak detector. So as to mod incoming mono streams. Now the issue is that the env is acting weirdly (like the release acting as an inverse attack??!)

Im using stock ADSR module with a peak detector I got from Trog. you can check my fsm here:

ENV.fsm
(576.88 KiB) Downloaded 794 times

So enable the audio out. Its a kick drum repeating. The threshold and RMS settings should be fine as is. Start to increase the release knob & listen . . . it seems that by turning the release UP, the attack of the kick drum increases???

It seems as if the envelope is not calculated to release the env in time and by increasing the release we are in fact going into the attack of the next calculated env?

Am I being stupid? or is it normal? This sounds very strange to me. . .

can anyone verify or take a look?

Thanks!!! :)

Hi Drnkhobo,

It might be the case that the gate trigger is too quick & the envelope is going straight from attack to release. That would mean it's skipping the decay and sustain sections. But I've checked with a scope attached and the waveform scales down with the attack increasing and it should really be nailing the beginning of the waveform not the whole thing. Playing around with the rms time affects the envelope quite a bit.

Perhaps it is to do with your averaging before the detection and subsequent gate trigger?

Good luck!

Regards,

Thanks Drnkhobo,

I have done some more testing with the scope and it happened to be a delay in the dry signal to be modulated . . .

 - Lesson of this thread, compensate for delay in processing when using triggers for mono envs
