The Missing Toolbox Tags Bug

Postby billv » Tue Jul 08, 2014 3:02 pm

Quick Question:
has anyone experienced this bug, opening FS to find lots of your toolbox tags missing..??

(Happened again to me yesterday....about 12 times last year....)
Fresh FS install/and modules packs don't fix it...I'm on fresh XP install too....

I think its X11 related. Every time it happened last year i was using X11 fsm.
But never could ask malc for help, as the fsm is too big....(needle in a haystack)

This time was a small fsm with a few key X11 parts in it.
Hoping I've isolated it. :) I've sent offending fsm to malc....

In the meantime, to help me clarify the issue ..

has anyone experienced this bug???....
or am i the only one with "missing toolbox tags" ..??

Example of "missing toolbox tags bug"
Open FS to find:
External/Imagery/String all empty
Flow/Element half empty
System only has a custom ticker..
Stuff like that...spend about an hour re-building the toolbox....endless cycle..

I'm glad I'm not the only one!!!

I've had the same, my direct sound prim and many others are not tagged (although they are) and don't show up under the corresponding group in the toolbox.

I have checked out your x11 fsm on my machine but plenty of reinstalls and no opening of your x11 it still happens.

I think it's not related to x11 but as I have used it once before it might still be an issue even after reinstalls.

@Drnkhobo
Do you get any "sudden mass diss-appearence" type of event....like...
eg: "Externals" section had maybe about 30 prims in there....(Robotics pack)
day after day its fine.... then gone...
I'm seeing a pattern over time... always
Externals/Flow/Element/Imagery become empty or 90% empty...

Curiously, today, "Imagery" came back by itself in full....
While I was re-building "Flow", a few items appeared that I had not dragged in yet..
(previous tags re-awakening/refreshed..?????)
Externals still nothing...

For reference..
User created sections of toolbox are always never effected by the bug.

XP till I die...  stubborn grey haired old man... :D ..hard to change some things...
About 5 years worth from last XP install....probably get another 5 from this new one,
bypass another 3 or 4 new platforms.
XP was/is great. Vista was a lemon...
And I hear a lot that Win8 is a lemon too...
I know there's a lot I'm missing out on....a whole new world out there with this touch
screen stuff..

Only real danger here is from malc, going the same route as Propellerhead   ,
and shutting the door on XP users....

PS
XP isn't just great....it's revolutionary....
Before XP CPU's were murder to use.....I hated it...real bad..

Yup, I'm another stick-in-the-mud XP User - I quite like Win 7, but I've got a bunch of unsupported audio hardware that I just can't afford to replace (nor want to!).

Seen a small version of this issue a couple of times - things disappearing; but not permanently, they've always re-appeared if I save, close, re-open. Don't really have much custom stuff in there, though - not sure if that might make a difference.
All schematics/modules I post are free for all to use - but a credit is always polite!

XP was a great OS compared to Win2000/ME ... ('95  )
But i really can't believe that people still use it... (of course you do if you run an old machine).

XP is dead, support/patches no more available. Also the windows defender is no more supported for XP....
I can say this..
I got Win Vista. first releases are bad. Not so stable, huge CPU consumption... but with SP3 is like Seven...
Just it has a bad name but Vista SP3 is not so terrible, it's 90% like seven expect for UI.

Windows Seven is probably the best windows nowadays for compatiblity, stability etc etc... If you won't forget XP, that's your choise.

I use Windows 8.1 ATM and i find it fantastic. I like the Start Menu much more... Easy to find things, place links to softwares. Integrated search, ready to go UI.
Really, windows 8 start menu is really the best thing of that new release.. I know sometimes people won't change things but it's really good. (But at beginning it was terrible also for me...!)
I like to try things. Alot of people say "Windows 8 is a kind of downgrade, etc etc.. Mobile shit etc etc..".
That's not true.
Windows 8 is much more fast, boot fast, is user friendly and has alot of news great things...
Really better for 1080p screens compared to win 7.
Metro apps are totally un-useful for desktop but are really good with touch and tablets.

So give a try to Win8 then judge (i mean at least 2 weeks) .. Never follow the mass of semi-nerd win 7 fans.

I love XP, but never feared change. That said, there´s one particular PC here that will never see anything but XP, because its ATI AIW card has no support on W7. OTOH, my netbook is awaiting the upgrade... I´ve heard that W7 runs very smooth on these ASUS 1000s, so I´ll give it a try. And if it doesn´t work, Norton Ghost is your friend!

About W8.... I hate it! Why in the earth did they remove the GS Wavetable Synth????????!!!!!!

Waiting for my CPU to blow-up...never had a cpu last this long....
Tempted a little to overclock it and force a meltdown.....

You could be right Trog....
I'm pointing the finger at "duplicated" items at the moment.....
Since my fresh XP install, I've kept FS toolbox tidy, but some hours before the crash,
I duplicated several items, several times , into different toolbox sections.
