Win10-What to do?

Postby tektoog » Wed Jul 01, 2020 11:59 am

Hey all, I'm facing a huge dilemma here (OK... it is relative  )... Since June 10-2020, this MS update is preventing me to export with FS 3.06... it works with 3.08, but some prims don't work as they were with 3.06... I tried to export 3.06 with a WIN10 updated in 02-2020 on another PC, and it works... So what should I do, as it has been a consensual agreement that 3.06 is the one to go with? I would continue working with the Alpha, but the main prim, the heart of all my work is the find string component, which doesn't work yet in the Alpha... Should I take some vacations :?: ;) :D ...? Or is there any news about an soon upcoming fix? Take care all...

Which update are you talking 'bout ... version update or some maintenance update?
Do you get any error messages?

This is the one.... and the one above...

There is no way to uninstall it... the others when I click on them, I have the option to uninstall... not these 2 :(
So I'm good to:
- Wait for a fix from MS
- Wait for a fix from FS
- Reinstall from scratch (lose everything)
- reinstall an old ghost (lose everything since the ghost has been made)
- Move on to vacation :D
I don't know what to do for now.... ;)

There is no way to unchecked folders individually...
The feature has to be turned off...
And when you chose to allow an app... each new instance is considered as a new app...
So the whole thing starts over and over... :o

Dreadful!

Here’s a link to the previous alpha where the find string prim is still working. This is the one I currently use for exports and helping Johan:

LINK DELETED! I should have done this via PM.

I hope it’s of some use to you.

I highly doubt it's ...959 that's making problems. It is just an update for the windows update installer. But ...960 is the one known to have caused some silly issues, being a cumulative system update. However, you are the only person on the whole wide internet that has this issue reported, so chances are very high, that it is a local problem rather than a Microsoft induced one.

Windows 10 creates restore points before any update without exceptions. You can always go back to a previous version that way. No need for manually messing up the system folder!

Will it work if you export to a non-protected folder, maybe Downloads?
I keep a pair of oven mitts next to my computer so I don't get a concussion from slapping my forehead while I'm reading the responses to my questions.

Thx a lot... is it 2778? ;) :D

Well, yes... It is a local problem... induce by this update ;)
I mentioned in my first post that on another machine, with the last update being of February 2020, it works fine!
Aslo, all was working more than fine before june 10th... never had any trouble with export/rendering a VST before this date...
Except FS, 2 DAWs and 2 video capturing/editing softwares...and winamp... there are no other software on my working/developing machine... Also, I use opera for web browsing, which is limited to FS forum, youtoobe, slack and FB... I empty my history after each web browsing session...
I have no restore point, except the one WIN10 made after updating today... and I can't even find it back anymore...
So no doubt, it comes from that... but the point is... what to do next?
deraudrl wrote:Will it work if you export to a non-protected folder, maybe Downloads?

I always work, and export on a second drive.. that's what I've learnt with time ... never store anything personal on a drive where your OS is... ;) and same issue...
But 3.08 doesn't have this issue, as the last time I tried to export...
But we agreed for 3.06 being the one to go with... Then I'll start to loop ;)
See my first post... ;)
Thanks for your suggestions guys :D ;)

Do you have separate admin account?
Have you tried by re-installing the FS? Re-installation helped with some other software which was marked as "non trusty" by Windows after update.
