That's what I mean, tester. No one can seriously answer the questions until the shop runs for a few months. No need to already decry it.

tester wrote:If you sell a module that does something, and I will ask for help on a similar concept, then what - you redirect me to your e-store?
Why not? If it's already been done, there's no need to re-invent the wheel. It's your decision then, if the solution is worth the money, or if you insist of re-inventing it yourself. It's a work, that has been done. A work by someone who had the knowledge and invested the time to build it. Why should it be a matter of course that it's shared for free?

tester wrote:To conclude. Make something that is worth of supporting with large-money scale, and find a business partner (DSP Robotics?) who will have an interest in helping you to get such support. 40 x $5 is much worse than 1 x $200.

That's your vision. Not Exos's. Worthless to debate about something that is not the topic.

Best of luck Exo and co!

i look forward to seeing what goodies you guys come up with!

I've been with this software from the start and have seen the huge amounts of work that the likes of Exo and others have put in over the years so.. hell yeah they deserve something for their input

I think it could possibly inject a wee bit of life into the community, since it has become as stale as 2 week old bread

all the best!

I'm sorry Tulamide but I'm fairly certain you've never downloaded a Flowstone component uploaded by someone else and created a whole project around it without first examining it and testing it out. :) Your analogy doesn't really apply for a number of reasons.

I don't think this discussion was meant to be personal in any way. We can freely share and discuss ideas and viewpoints without it doing anyone harm. Nobody is forcing anyone's hand.

I've gained a lot more from this forum from people telling me what was wrong with my work or ideas than I have from people saying "neat, thanks."

The only components I download for use in my projects are dsp or assembly based. That's because I simply have no idea how to code in these two. That also means I don't examine them (how should I without knowledge). If you mean by testing to use the fsm as given and see if it works - yes, then I'm testing them. But that's possible with the items in the shop, too. And I think the analogy does apply very well. It's exactly what is happening in a shop, be it the market around the corner or an online shop. You look at offers for washing machines and then decide wether to buy or not.

I didn't harm anyone. Besides that, if I'm answering to a specific argument of a specific person, it is the nature of it to be personal. Just as you were personal with the post I'm answering, which of course is personal, too. I don't see any issues with it.

That may very well be so, but it's not really the topic. This thread is not a discussion about something that might or might not be realized. The shop already exists, so asking for our thoughts was of course meant in the lines of the actual shop. Something like "I don't like the layout" or "I can't find the checkout" or "there's not enough content", etc. You get the point.

What bothers me is that this gets ignored and instead a call for free software is made. Would it really hurt to just say something like "well, good luck Exo, but I personally prefer making my own modules and learn from the comments"?

Perhaps that's true. Though you'll notice that I was responding to his own comments that he had doubts about the whole thing. It's not difficult to see that me taking the time to offer my perspective was meant to be helpful. We all appreciate Exo and want to see Flowstone continue to grow. That we don't all agree on every detail is to be expected.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I have made the decision to close the shop. This is nothing to do with comments here. Rather I have very severe time constrains at the moment, and am currently working on a project in JUCE so I just don't have time to make a success of the shop. So have decided to close it and take a break from Flowstone, for personal and reasons to do with the future of Flowstone. Read more HERE
