Editing Knob bitmap images...
Hi
Is it possible to rip a knob's bitmap image, load it into Knobman, edit it, then re-use it?
There seem to be a lot of knobs in the wild and in some cases I would only want to make minor edits. This is not to steal, but to mutate and create like someone says we should!
Cheers

What you can do, however, is to export the images (PHI, for example, just posted an example of how to save bitmaps), and edit them in your image editor of choice (if you really just want to do simple changes, that is).

Yeah that's exactly what this is for.

Of course you just get .png images (in this case it would be an animation strip), so you can only do whatever you can do with flat images to them. I've never used Knobman so I don't know if it can load and edit pre-made strips. Maybe if you have something like a "gif editor" or "sprite editor" that might be helpful.

Hey PH Interface,
If you are interested in UI elements,
I recommend taking KM for a spin.
It's a really nice soft.
You can load strips, then add in additional layers,
to mask or add items
edit- Photoshop is the industry standard .png editor for good reason,
however the free Gimp is pretty serious too.

Re: Editing Knob bitmap images...
Well, this is what I found I could do.
I used PHI's excellent Bitmap Save tool
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3492
This is excellent for ripping a bitmap knob's image.
I was able to edit it in a photo editor then create a new project in Knobman and set the Layer 1 to "image" (folder symbol) and locate the saved edited image. One could actually create a knob image from scratch and load that instead I guess.
It's then possible to set a start and end rotation animation and finally export the image as a strip.
Then the strip can be loaded into an animation knob and voila!
There are catches at every turn, like you need to get the cell size and number of cells correct when loading the animation back into the knob and also be aware of transparency in the animation. Best to use PNG or GIF formats. JPG doesn't do transparency for instance.
I tried to encourage Knobman to load a strip ripped from an animated knob, then realised what a stupid idea this was! Knobman is a creation program that renders the result to a strip. The strip is the output (export). To do what I thought might be possible would be like trying to un-mix a song to change the chords on the rhythm guitar.
Flowstone is infinite fun!

Hey I just made this knob in Photoshop, loaded into Knobman, set the rotation, exported as an animation strip then loaded into an Animated knob. The whole thing took about 5 minutes.
What fun
