Module not staying in Toolbox: WTF?

Postby Spogg » Mon Jun 08, 2015 8:36 am

Hi all

I've been playing with BobF's excellent Lissajou Art idea and made a simple test bed to work on the display module. However I can't save the module to the toolbox. It appears there when I click the + symbol but when I choose a different toolbox category, then go back, the Lissajou module has gone. Search won't find it either.
So far I've
-rebooted the PC
-saved the project after adding the module
-tried toolboxing other random modules form other projects: all successful and 'stick' in any toolbox category
-disconnected the inputs to the module so it's not displaying before adding to the toolbox.
The issue seems only to be with this module and I can't see why. Not had this ever before. FS version 3.08.1 under Windows 7 32bit SP1.
Can someone please test this for me to see if it's a bug or something with my system?
HELP!!

That sounds odd. What I can tell you is:
1) If you have any of the filter types selected at the top that will of course limit your results. Make sure they're all deselected.
2) If you have any of the tags selected that will also limit your results. Make sure you have all the tags deselected in the "tag bar" (remember this is hideable).
3) There's a longstanding bug where tags will not stay on stuff in your toolbox. If you're searching for anything via tags, there's a good chance you won't find it.

Apart from those things I've never experienced anything not working in the toolbox like that.

Thanks for looking at this PHI. I did make sure about your points. I just wondered, were you able to store the module successfully in your own toolbox?

Sorry for the delayed response. From my brief testing I couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. No problems adding or recalling from the toolbox.

So, I realised that there is something on my own PC causing this behaviour, thanks to PHI's test.
I found that every time I tried to add the module to the Toolbox it appeared in the 'modules' folder, followed by a number giving it a unique file name. But I can't ever see it in the toolbox itself. Tried different names and added a tooltip help prim but no different. Deleted all files with Lissajou in the name. Tried under various tags too. Pasted it into a new project and still the same with this module.
There must be something about this particular module and my FS installation but I can't find it. All other modules, added since, work fine in the Toolbox.
Cheers

If a number is added it means that there is already a file with the same name in that folder. Everytime you add it again, the number counts up.

New Module.hom -> New Module-1.hom -> New Module-2.hom -> etc.

It may be the case that the first saved version is somehow damaged and therefore blocks all other tries to get them in the toolbox. You could try to delete all of the files (or move them out of this folder to a place outside of Flowstone's scope), including the very first one, which would not have a number added. Then start Flowstone and try it again with a working schematic.

Thanks Tulamide. Tried emptying the modules/users folder. Still the same issue. Can see the newly saved Lissajou.hom but not seen in the toolbox, even after another restart of FS.

Spogg,
you have the right write permission in the module folder?

Hi tronic
I believe so. I can add and remove new modules and cut/paste etc in explorer. Never any questions from the OS and I am the administrator...
