Lissajou Art

Oh, I think I understand now what you were saying. I thought you were trying to say that we were hearing things that we couldn't see on the oscilloscope, when in fact you were trying to say the opposite.
The idea of creating such a distinct disconnect between audible and visual is interesting indeed. You have to consider though, that if they can create inaudible signals to form visible images, how do they keep the audible parts of the signal from messing that up?
I suspect a lot of this has to do with first creating the oscillations to form the images and then finding ways to manipulate that audio that works in both the visible and audible realms. But things like the voice with the talking mouth are peculiar indeed.

Re: Lissajou Art
Neat work guys. I'm still imagining what kind of "shape editors" we could come up with.
Meanwhile I'm just playing with dumb stuff. I tweaked the "pretty" display again. As much as I like Trog's "phosphor" effect I had to get rid of it as I've found the redraw rate is definitely superior without it, and it makes a big difference in the detail of movement you can see. I experimented with some other things using audio delays and transparencies but ultimately just settled on the more basic display.

Re: Lissajou Art
Hello Gang,
Well I see everyone has been enjoying this a lot!
Here is a quick and dirty DUAL display that can be also varied a lot. The demo is a quick RED/BLUE 3D display. You need those red/blue 3D glasses to view and adjust the X/Y gain controls for the best 3D. I made this before all the new displays so I am sure there is a lot more that can be done as always. Also of course this can be used NOT just for 3D, other oscillators, filters, etc., can be applied to the other x/y inputs for 2 completely different images.
P.S.1, Just added a dual new display fsm also. Enjoy....
P.S.2, If anyone can make these dual displays better, easier, etc., please post. Thanks.....
As always, improvements, fixes, mods, and etc. are welcome.
Later then, BobF.....

Re: Lissajou Art
Hey BobF, try this with your 3D glasses.
This is just a basic depth control. It's entirely possible to make a 3D vector where the shapes themselves are drawn in 3D space, but the only problem with that is that it would become an X-Y-Z display whereas an audio signal only has two channels. You could take two stereo signals and do X-Y and Depth-Color or something but I think that takes some of the wow factor away when it involves a more complicated setup like that, nevermind the idea of making something "musical." Still, it could be fun...
I can make a "pretty" 3D display as well that won't require glasses.

Re: Lissajou Art
Spogg, yes! That's just the kind of thing I was imagining. It's kind of amazing to see it working right before my eyes. Very nicely executed!
And just as I thought, it makes for a sort of synthesizer as well. It's an immediate fusion of visual and audio artmaking! There are so many cool possibilities with this!
I would like to at least see the drawn shape on the left in the draw area so you can better see what you're doing. But yeah I'm sure there's a lot more things we can do with this.
