Home Security Application

Postby paul.pacini » Mon Aug 08, 2011 9:41 pm

Besides home automation, given FlowStone’s I/O capability and low computing overhead, you could make one heck-of-a home security system with an old PC and some X-10 modules. Besides doing all the usual door and window checking, it could also have some built-in redundancy to avoid false alarms from pets. It could look for motion changes with cameras and send images to the owner via email or SMS. It could switch lights on and off for a “lived-in” appearance.

Wow, that just gave me some cool ideas…
Kind regards,
Paul

I have this Home automation kit now and it works great with FlowStone.

I've made it so that I can turn the lights on or off using a IR remote control and the Phidgets IR Remote Control Interface & the Marmitek CM15 Pro USB Home automation Interface:

X10 is a protocol for communication among electronic devices used for home automation (domotics). It primarily uses power line wiring for signaling and control, where the signals involve brief radio frequency bursts representing digital information. A wireless radio based protocol transport is also defined.
