Wow, sorry to hear about all the trouble with the synths with the wavetable oscillators. All I can tell you is what happens when I save these in SM as VST dll.s, then open them in vstHost is that windows open (one for each of the oscs the synth has) that ask if you to load wavetables (I don't know why); I just say no in each window and the synth opens fine. When you click the 'load' button in the synth itself a box appears for you navigate to where on your computer you have wavetables stored, and you can load them into the synth's oscillator. I put together a folder full of wavetables that I got from some wavetable synths that were on the SM examples page on the old site (I don't know how they were made). In the wave-draw modules you can also save them as .txt, which is what the SM wavetable oscillators use. I also knocked together a module that let me mix wavetables together to get different shapes (which is what you see in my "tableBlend" synth), and you can save them as .txt and them load into a wavetable synth.

For whatever it's worth.

A couple on the way: I did a version of the Matrix-Six with the oscillators replaced by Aalto-style complex oscillators using the great wavefolder that Spogg came up with (East-meets-West!). Also a new version of "tableBlend' (based on the DSI Prophet 12) with all the Arp-style modulation inputs replaced with a proper Pro-12-style 16-slot mod matrix; a few fine-tunes as well (for one, since 'tableBlend' doesn't have the P-12's wave-sequencing, I added Spogg's wavefolder to compensate a bit). And lastly I finally fine-tuned an emulation of the much-maligned Oberheim (actually designed by Don Buchla) OB-Mx. I started out fixing up my version of the Matrix 12, but after realizing how similar the architectures of the 12 and the OB-Mx were, I decided to do the OB instead because of it's having two different filters, rather than the 12's single Multimode. Plus the 12's crazy number of LFOs and EGs is a little overwhelming.

See ya soon,

K brown

Here they are.

There's a little goodie at the bottom-right corner of the 'Mx-Jr' panel to change it's color from the famous Oberheim ivory white, to a rich, coppery color; saw a pic online of one this color - don't know if was some prototype or custom job or what.

Personally I'm loving the Buchla-style (Aalto-concept) oscillators in the 'Matrix-SixFM' (thanks again Spogg for the wavefolder) - no reason this type of oscillator can't be coupled with a familiar subtractive-type synth architecture - the modular boys have been doing just this for some time now.

'tableBlend' is now much closer to the architecture of the DSI Prophet 12, with it's 16-slot mod matrix; filter, too is more like the '12 - in the first version I tried to 'lux it out with something like what the Pro-2 has, but it always seemed confusing to use.

Just a note to say I've uploaded my wave folder now.

Thanks go to Mr Brown for drawing this technique to my attention and for all the other gifts he has given freely.

- Crumar Sprit (no arppegiator, anyone want to add it?).
- EMS VCS3 Putney (slightly incomplete features).
- Ensoniq ESQ-1 (standard SM wavetables, not emulations - any want to/know how to put in the correct ones?).
- Oberheim Matrix-6 (in OB-X livery - don't like black and blue GUIs).
- Oberheim/Visccount OB-12 (very obscure synth; interesting architecture).
- Polyfusion System A modular.

Thank you! (Spogg too!)

Suitably overwhelmed, I thought I'd start with something familiar - the VCS3 (it's 'west coast' of sorts: EMS now resides in Cornwall - as a tenant of the Prince of Wales, no less).
And I've only just now noticed the line about 'slightly incomplete features' - so this post may well be redundant (sorry).
But during a brief (but joyous) encounter, I noticed:
- Osc2 Tri/Saw just puts out a Saw - though I get something that sounds like a phase shift with the 'shape' control;
- the Decay column in the matrix doesn't appear to be connected (to either of the Decays or Releases);
- except on the first patch, the Sequencer sliders won't move below about a third of the way up (and don't seem to be automatable).
Also, by default, it would be nice if the matrix were blank, rather than with every pin connected.

Additionally, I noticed that it sounds absolutely gorgeous - even in its current 'incomplete' state, it's going to get a lot of use, and would have made my day/week/month on its own ... something tells me I'm going to enjoy exploring the other fifty-odd synths!
Astounding work.

Thanx you sir! Not only do these work, they also give a clear overview from how a wavetable txt should look like and they get saved within presets.

I appreciate it a lot. Yesterday I even tried the wavetablemaker from Kirsty Roland that is included in her download here (http://xsrdo.net16.net/) and saved the drawn wavetables as txtdata but that wasn't working either.
Time to make some presets now ;)

Hi, first many thanks for those great collections, and many thanks also for the reworking and the discussion, which was very interesting to follow. When I see a story like this, I am exited about what people do for others on a topic they love (or are addicted to).
I'm not an FS user, so I have not really an insight into its structure and programming. I have a SM CM edition, which I never had the time to explore, only to install :(

Now, here is a problem I encountered:
I tried at first the Ms-20, namely "Chorg PS-20_cables_Resntrs.dll". There I wanted to utilize the s+h module.
With the s+h module, fed by pink noise and clocked from the MG, which is set at full pulsewidth, you can get on a hardware MS-20 a random note generator when you connect the output to total or freq, and then open the extMod value. Ages ago, I had the MS-20 (sold it), where I did this often, and now I have the legacy cell. with the controller (which is nice btw, but not a quality product). There this configuration works.
But on the Chorg I had no luck to get this effect up and running. The s+h seems dead. MG and Pink Noise do work correctly.
I am sorry to bring this up. Maybe I'm handling the chorg wrong ?

'Chorg PS-20' S/H fixed - I had the Mod Gen square wave positive-going only and the S/H triggers off of zero-cross!

'The Putnie' partially fixed - an incorrect connection inside the Ramp/Tri/'Saw oscillator.

I'm getting no misbehavior from the step LFO - full slider ranges. As for automation, not sure exactly what that means - I'm not a DAW user. Remember this is not an actual sequencer, just a simple step LFO 'standing-in' for one.

Regarding the Matrix opening full of pins, all I can say is it doesn't happen when I open it in vstHost. The synth opens with a default patch approximation "On The Run" from "Dark side of the Moon"; only the pins required for this patch are populated. Anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

As for the mod of EG decay - it doesn't work because I could never figure out how to do it in SM - I left it in the Matrix in case I ever figured it out -anyone know how?

Heya,
Since these don't have preset params, nothing is automatable.
If you make a preset param, there is an option to reveal it to host automation,
which is implemented in different ways in different hosts-
ie. splines,drawing,recording

Thanks for sharing KB!
