Standalone exe export also should have some "export demo version" like VST. It could be time limitation (set by user), after which app stops working (offline mode = zero activity plus maybe some nag screen?).
Also - when creating demos - there cold be some variety of options: time limitations, audio distortions (VST/VSTI plugins only), nag screens, maybe some "registration mode" - just to make it easy and not build from scratch.
