Wavetable creator updated !

Postby rocknrollkat » Fri Dec 15, 2017 7:20 pm

Hi gang,
A short while ago I discovered this terrific little program for generating wavetables graphically.
Included is a 'synth' to audition the wave.
Fabulous program, but upon using it I quickly realized that there was no way of accurately placing a data point !
So to create a stairstep of let's say 11 steps, it was impossible to place a data point precisely where needed.
There is also a curve shaper 'pot', again with no scale !
I decided to remedy the situation and I revamped the program with data point locaters so you can see EXACTLY where you are.
You will find a point counter (handy when there are many points on the screen), an active cell counter and an "x" and "y" counter. The 'pot' also has a 'rotation' counter, so halfway around is now a number instead of a guess.
I also tidied up the graphics.
I've included the original program along with my hot rodded version for you to compare.
I think the orange notes are by Spogg, the green notes are mine.

Enjoy !

goodness that takes me back! good to see my old junk getting some use after such a long time :) I really need to get back into producing stuff in FS sometime soon!

will have a play around with your edited version!

Great update Roxy!

The "orange" comments were indeed mine. There were no instructions when I found this in the old Synthmaker archive.
The description was almost certainly posted in the old forum topic rather than in the schematic itself, but I didn't get access to the posted topic contents.

The original work was quite some achievement Jay, and I can see a good potential use for this for defining an LFO waveform for example.

Cheers

Hi Jay !
Yes, this is a great piece of software !
Nothing 'junk' about it.
I am working with wavetables now and this is a terrific aid in my work.
I look forward to any improvements you make on this piece of gear.
Thanks again for this wonderful timesaver !

Thank you, Spogg !
It took me a few hours to update this great piece of software.
It's nice to know that people with your experience appreciate the work that goes into something like this.
Yes, wavetable synthesis is a very accurate way to generate functions with rock steady amplitude, phase, no drift, etc.
That is why I am a fan of this type of wave synthesis.
And of course, you can break into the table and create waves by altering individual numbers.
I created a pulse at 0 degrees phase by first loading 256 "0"s, then changing the first 3 "0"s to "1"s.
And it is quite possible to manually create a better than 1 degree accurate pulse anywhere in the 360 degree spectrum
by loading 512 "0"s, doing some simple arithmetic, count down and replace a few "0"s with "1"s.
If you need a pulse at 17 degrees, that's the way to go about it !
I use "0" instead of "-1" as my baseline for timing pulses and modulating waves, saves a lot of aggravation later !
And for those LFO signals you want ?
Dead accurate, text files don't change with frequency !

Best regards,

Hello rocknrollkat,

Great job, it really does make it easier and better.

Keep them coming!

Later then, BobF.....

P.S., your inspiring me, I will have to put up some more simple circuits soon.

Hi Bob,
I'm glad you enjoy the updated wavetable builder !
Have you checked out my new musical ring modulator ?
Sweet sounding and dead simple !
I'd love to see some or your simple ideas, your grasp of complex switching is amazing !
I barely remember that stuff from decades ago, I'll leave it up to you :D

Enjoy !
