Mostly yes, though you can trash your speakers (home stereo) if you keep playing digital square waves. & I have to agree with MyCo, I can see a pure digital sine wave not coming out pure when you digitize it.trogluddite wrote:And ultimately, you gotta play it back through a non-linear magnetic driver to turn it into soundwaves.
I do think that higher bit depth & rates help out with today's squashed compression & near clipping situations.
But 99.99% of music is complex enough that some minor digital artifacts won't be noticed, IF they are decently mastered.

I always wondered about how would it be to have some kind of cochlear implant but with a direct connection to , say, a mixing desk instead of a microphone...
