Incomplete toolbox

Postby k brown » Tue Apr 23, 2019 12:13 pm

Hey guys -

K Brown here - I finally upgraded from Synthmaker to Flowstone (I know, I know) - started with 3.0.8 and was freezing and crashing with my old machine (Win XP on a Lenovo R61e; I know, I know), so uninstalled and installed 3.0.6. Worked much better, though still crashed and froze a few times. After recovering from a Kernal error crash, suddenly the toolbox slots External, Maths, String, and Flow are all empty. Everything else is there including the tags I added while in the earlier versions. So I uninstalled 3.0.6 and installed 3.0.5 and all the same slots are still empty. I'm figuring some sort of registry issue? I'm just wrapping up a new synth, and suddenly I have no access to the most important/basic stuff.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I had exactly this problem just recently when I was messing around working out which version to use on a new laptop. Thankfully, no registry tinkering should be required - the problem seems to be with the module and tag files in FlowStone's AppData folder. IIRC, there was a version change at some point which moved the tags from the modules into separate files or vice-versa - something like that, anyway.

What I did was...
- Uninstall FlowStone.
- Open the AppData folder for the current user (something like C:\Users\{your-name}\AppData\Roaming - you may need to select "show hidden files" in Explorer for it to be visible.)
- Within there, find the folder ...\FlowStone\Modules\User and copy it somewhere safe.
- Now delete all of the FlowStone sub-folder from ..\AppData\Roaming.
- Re-install FlowStone.
- Copy the user modules back where they came from.

[EDIT: On Windows XP, the AppData folder might be elsewhere, and probably doesn't have a 'Roaming' sub-folder.]

HOWEVER: When I did this, my custom tag categories went missing, too (may not be a problem if you're upgrading from SynthMaker). So I had to create them again in the toolbox and retag quite a few of my custom modules which had those tags. You MIGHT be able to get around this by also copying any custom .tag files from the '...\FlowStone\Tags folder in AppData - I'm not sure, as I didn't think of that until it was too late (definitely worth a try - you can always go back to step 1 if it messes anything up.)

Good luck! :D

Thanks Trogg

I tried it with re-installs of both 3.0.5 and 3.0.6 and no go - same tags still missing!

Aah, that's a bummer. :(

There is one other thing that I forgot. FS doesn't install with a load of the old Audio/DSP modules - they now come as downloadable Module Packs. I didn't think that those included any primitives etc., but it might that installing those is what's needed to tag everything up properly (you'll probably want them anyway if you haven't downloaded them already.)

That seems odd, since these are core functions that you would think would load upon installation of the software itself, but I'll look into it - thanks again.
